After the success of the Redmi Note 7 series it seems that Xiaomi has already started working on the Redmi Note 8 series of smartphones. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing has confirmed the existence of the Redmi Note 8.
Note 7 series gained wide popularity globally including India. In India, Xiaomi managed to ship 5 million units of Redmi Note 7 & Note 7 Pro as of August. After the success of the Redmi Note 7 series it appears that Xiaomi has started working on the Redmi Note 8 series of phones. Notably, this is no rumour as Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing has confirmed the existence of the Redmi Note 8 series. In addition to the phone, Weibing has also confirmed some specs of the upcoming Redmi Note 8 series.
Weibing took to the Chinese Twitter like social media platform -- Weibo -- to reveal details of the Redmi Note 8. Interestingly Weibing's Weibo updates are being posted by a “Note8Android” device, which is a piece of decent evidence suggesting the smartphone may launch very soon. In the post he writes that the Redmi Note 8 will come with much-upgraded cameras when compared to the Redmi Note 7 series. To recall the Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with 48MP camera setup on the back. This somewhat hints that the Redmi Note 8 may be the 64MP Redmi phone that the company has been teasing for a while now.
In the same Weibo post Weibing notes that the Redmi Note 8 will come with a much bigger battery and screen-to-body ratio when compared to the Redmi Note 7 series. Both the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro comes packed with a 4000mAh battery setup and deliver great battery life on a single charge. In the same post Weibing also says that the hand-feel of the Redmi Note 8 will be much better when compared to the Redmi Note 7.
Xiaomi is expected to announce the Redmi Note 8 series -- Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro on August 29 alongside the Redmi TV in China. Redmi’s CEO has been refuting claims and leaks about the expected Redmi Note 8 series but his Weibo updates are being posted by a “Note8Android” device, which is a piece of decent evidence suggesting the smartphone may launch soon. Also Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun replied with a thumbs-up emoji to comment on Weibing’s post asking if the Note 8 series will be launched on the same day. While this is not a very assuring response, we do expect at least a teaser of the Redmi Note 8 series even if is not launched at the event.
The photo from the commercial ad of the Redmi Note 8 Pro has been leaked by a Twitter user who goes by the name Xiaomishka. The snapshot shows the Redmi Note 8 Pro from the back panel. In the picture, the Redmi Note 8 Pro appears in green and black gradient shade. The phone looks a lot like the Redmi K20 series from the back in the leaked picture.
The picture reveals some of the key details of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. It shows the smartphone with quad-camera setup on the back. The four cameras sit in the middle of the back panel and are aligned in a vertical fashion. The alignment of the cameras are similar to PocoPhone F1. An ad revealed that three out of four rear cameras of the Redmi Note 8 Pro will be placed vertically while the fourth sensor will sit on the right side of the triple camera module. The back panel doesn't include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and this clearly hints at in-display fingerprint sensor.
