As some of you might know that India has its own app store already existing, which is controlled by the Govt. which is called Mobile Seva App Store and in this AppStore, you'll get to see almost all the Govt. Apps like Arogya Setu, BHIM, etc, and a few private apps like PayTM, etc. As of now, it seems that the Indian Govt is planning to bring up its own app store, govt. might relaunch it after a bit of modification and redesigning. The main motive of bringing up an own AppStore in India is that recently you might have seen that PayTM was banned from Google's Play Store, though after some time it came back on Google's Play Store. The reason for removing PayTM from Google's Play store for allegedly violating the gambling policies. PayTM like an app which is one of the biggest company in which companies from all over the world have stakes, is banned within 24 hours, and another logic behind that is, if such big apps are being removed so easily from the AppStore then, if any Indian developer is there who is independent then, his app also can be removed easily from there, so the motive is to protect that by bringing up an Indian AppStore.
Recently Google Play Store's new payment policy from 20-1-2021, which says that now the developers have to pay 30% gatekeeper's tax to google for in-app purchases for the apps which are directly downloaded from Google's Play Store and also they have laid out a policy for not promoting off-app billing of any paid features. App developers of India says that, if we had our own AppStore then, we might bypass such type of difficulties and reach out to customers easily, in an indirect way they can earn more profits because at the end of the day they don't have to pay any taxes to Google. This thing sounds right but exactly there is a problem behind that.
In India, there is an app store called Indus App Bazaar which already exists. The Apps which are present in the App Store of Huawei are the apps which are the apps which are present in Indus App Bazaar, You'll see this feature in the recently launched phones of Huawei, in which Google Play Store is not present. In Samsung's phones, you'll find the Galaxy App Store, which is also powered by Indus App Bazaar. But at the end of the Indus App Bazaar is a completely separate app store other than that many third-party app stores are available in the market but they are not that much popular in the market, the main reason behind that is that, Google doesn't allow any other third party store in their app store, which means you can download any application from Google's Play Store but you'll not find the app in Play Store from which you can download other applications, Google Play Store has blocked this kind of third-party applications, for example, if a store comes like Aptoide, you'll not find it in Play Store, As Google doesn't want to increase their competition so they will not allow the third party app store in their store.
The Third-Party become a hit but were exactly not that much popular, and the little bit of attraction we're seeing is because they have deals with several smartphone companies that, when they'll export their smartphones to India, before sending them they should preload these third-party application stores in the smartphones.
So, two things are clear from this, that is, if a few private companies jointly make an app store and operate it according to their desires then they can easily do it. Secondly, this app store will be only available for android but not for the IOS, it is because Apple's IOS doesn't give them permission to download any application from any third party store, and if someone wants to download anything from a third-party app store then the user have to jailbreak their IOS.
If the private Indian companies want to make an app store then they can make it but they have to distribute it's Apks, because it will not be available in the Play Store, and secondly, the companies have to make people understand that how their app store better than the Google's Play Store.
The difficulty faced by a newly launched app store is of the variety of apps it's providing, if the catalog of apps is small, then people might not get attracted to it, as the variety it is providing is already available in Play Store also.
The information we have got from the Govt. is, they might make a rule that the smartphones which are sold in India should come with India made App Store, after that this might happen that if someone purchases a new smartphone from the in India then, you may find Play Store and an India Made App Store in it.
For now, it may be valid for androids only and may not be valid for IOS because of the different types of OS-level restrictions.
