Lava confirmed to launch made in India smartphone on January 7

Lava has officially revealed that it is planning to launch an  event on January 7 to showcase what it is calling the “game-changing moment in the smartphone industry.” This is an indirect hint at the comeback of the brand to the mainstream mobile phone market days after its rival Micromax returned to the market with the launch of IN sub-brand.

Lava has posted a teaser on its official social media handles announcing that it will be launching new smartphones on January 7, 2021

According to the latest leak by 91Mobiles, Lava could introduce as many as four new phones priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 on January 7. Micromax recently made its comeback in the Indian smartphone market with the In Note 1 and In 1b to take on the bestselling phones in the respective segments from companies like Xiaomi, Realme, and more. This falls in line with earlier reports that said Lava Mobiles would announce four new phones in January, however, the exact specifications of these upcoming phones are currently not known.

Lava recently launched the Be U smartphone in India for Rs 6,888 featuring a 6.08-inch HD+ display with 2.5D curved glass along with a u-shaped notch cutout for the 8MP selfie camera upfront. The phone has a plastic build that measures 9.82 millimeters in thickness and weighs 175.8 grams.

It is powered by the Unisoc octa-core processor with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage and runs on Android 10 Go Edition out-of-the-box. The Lava BeU has a dual-camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 13MP camera with an f/1.85 aperture along with a 2MP secondary camera and LED flash. The phone supports dual SIM and is powered by the 4,060mAh battery that the company claims can provide a talk time of about 16 hours.

For now, we do not know what Lava Mobiles has planned for the January 7 event but that should be out as we move closer to the date.
