ASUS ROG PHONE 5: Design, Specifications and Pricing

Asus announced its flagship ROG Phone 5 Today, its most powerful gaming smartphone on the market. The gaming smartphone has been redesigned to improve performance and ergonomics and now comes in multiple flavors with the Ultimate edition sporting 18GB of RAM.

Design and Specification

The phone has more or less the same design as its predecessor but now has the traditional ROG backlit logo with the dot matrix display on the rear. Asus is also bringing back the 3.5mm headphone jack with an ESS Sabre ES9280AC Pro Quad DAC to the ROG Phone 5. The Class G amp automatically detects the impedance of your headphones and switches to the appropriate mode (it supports headphones between 8 Ohm and 1,000 Ohm).

The phone features a 6.78-inch display of 1080x2448 pixels resolution with a refresh rate of 144Hz at a pixel density of 395 Pixels Per Inch (PPI). Asus says it has closely worked with Samsung on the custom AMOLED panel, which also supports HDR10+. The display is 23% brighter than the previous ROG Phone, claims Asus. The screen also has a touch rate of 300Hz as well.

The Asus ROG Phone 5 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, the same chipset that powers the Mi 11 and the soon-to-be-announced OnePlus 9 series (23rd March 2021). The smartphone has been launched in Phantom Black and Storm White colors. The smartphone is powered by a 6000mAh battery. The Asus ROG Phone 5 supports proprietary fast charging of 65 Watts but the charger included in the box is 30 Watts only. Not only does the ROG Phone 5 has the latest flagship hardware(s), but it also has a few gaming-centric features and is available with several optional accessories that elevate the gaming experience. These include the AeroActive 5 cooling fan that now has two physical AirTrigger buttons and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The accessory can be used as a kickstand.
