Manual Transmission vs Automatic Transmission:

What is Transmission? It is basically the mechanism by which power is transmitted from an engine to the axle in a motor vehicle is known as transmission, in other words, it's also called a GearBox. And the transmission is further divided into many types. There are main two types of transmissions, Manual Transmission, and Automatic Transmission. An automatic transmission is further divided into many types.

Manual Transmission

First, let's discuss manual transmission, manual transmission has been used in cars since, basically, you press your clutch and shift your gear up as the speed increases. The gear transmitted manually is know as manual transmission, as on the lower gears you'll get more torque and on the higher gears, you'll be getting more power. Manual Transmission allows you to get the optimum control on the shifting of the gears, and it is very helpful for the racers because they have the optimum control on the gear shifting, engages completely, and have full control on its speed and gear shifting, that is with manual transmission.

Learning Manual Transmission

The Learning Curve of a manual transmission is steep, as when you start learning initially then you have to cover a lot of things like you have to press the clutch, change gears, check your speed, etc thus it takes much time. If you live in a very crowded area where you have to drive a car in too much traffic then, the manual transmission will seriously a headache for you, as you have to control too many things together, and will make you feel frustrated if you drive in too much traffic. But the manual transmission is quite cheaper in comparison with automatic transmission.

Automatic Transmission

Now in Automatic Transmission, here things get interesting, there are different types of an automatic transmission from which two are not truly automatic which are AMT and IMT. Here AMT stands for Automated Manual Transmission and IMT stands for Intelligent Manual Transmission. In IMT, this is a new technology where there is no clutch pedal present in the car but you have to shift gears manually and similarly, in AMT there is no clutch and you don't have to change gears, you just have to put your car in Drive and start driving, your car will automatically decide when to shift gear, but there are disadvantages because it is not real automatic, that's why when the gear shifts you'll notice, and many time it happens when the driving conditions are not known also. A particular speed is set already, after reaching that speed the gear shifts automatically but sometimes you're driving onto an inclined road, because of which sometimes you have to stay at the same gear for a long time, but in AMT the gear will automatically shift after reaching a certain speed. If the roads are plain then it'll be okay but if the road is inclined or declined then sometimes AMT doesn't behave properly. IMT and AMT are comparatively cheaper than the proper automatic vehicles. These are present mostly in small vehicles like hatchbacks, etc. But remember AMT and IMT are not a true automatic transmission, we can say these are semi-automatic transmission.

CVT and DCT

Now in the Automatic type, there are two types, CVT and DCT, and both of them operate differently. Now if we say about CVT, it stands for Continuous Variable Transmission, this doesn't have any gearbox in it, the gears smoothly change with the help of pullies and change fast also, so CVT is a different type of Automatic Transmission. CVT is generally used in the cars like compact SUVs and so. And CVT is focused on more mileage.

DCT stands for Dual-Clutch Transmission, here dual-clutch is used for Odd and Even gears, that's why it changes gears very quickly, and DCT is for performance, that's why it is used in Big SUVs which requires more power. In the case of CVT if any problem arises then it is expensive to repair, and those who have CVT vehicles, they might have experienced that sometimes it loses acceleration, because of which CVT are not available in many vehicles.

When to buy CVT? So if you want a fuel-efficient car then you should buy a CVT vehicle, but if you want performance then you should go for a DCT vehicle, but DCT's are expensive, because of which DCT's are available in luxury high-performance cars only.
