Honda Activa Electric | Launching Soon?

We know the trend of Electric Vehicles is coming soon. There are many electric scooters available in the market like Ather, Pure EV, Bajaj, and TVS also came up with electric scooters, there are many options in the market. The question comes that, are these scooters really interesting or you shouldn't purchase electric scooters?  Or simply should you buy an electric scooter or wait for some other brands to arrive?

Small Brands like Pure EV and Ather, don't have that much reach in the market like Ather has just started expanding, it's going to Mumbai, Pune, etc. and Pure EV is also a new start-up, these are just available in few cities, you can't buy it from anywhere you want. These brands are not well known in the market yet, and they don't have much reach, because of which most of the people don't even know about the existence of these brands in front of the conventional scooter, whereas if you look at Bajaj and TVS, they recently did a flash sale of Electronic Scooters in Pune and Delhi, most of the people didn't know about that, nor we don't even know the figures that they have sold. So the problem is that their numbers are yet very small, or in simple words, the penetration of Electric Scooters in the Indian market is very very less. This will start growing when a well-known brand like Honda comes up with an electric Activa, Suzuki comes with an Electric Access or TVS comes up with an Electric Jupiter, then the real impact will come in the market.

Now the question comes that Will Honda bring an Electric version of Activa? Let us put it in simple words, Honda is testing Electric Scooter for Indian Market, from the last year they have started testing, many reports come that states that they have started testing from 1-2 years, and we're expecting that this year or next year, Honda will launch an Electric Scooter. Earlier our understanding was like they will bring Activa in an Electric Avatar, but now it doesn't seem like that. It seems like that they will bring an Electric Scooter from their Southeast Asian Portfolio, which will be more suitable to come in as a Niche Product, which means it will be in a minimal number. The reason for this is, the electric conditions in India in terms of Charging infrastructure are not that solid yet, and because of this many brands including Honda will not invest much in infrastructure and the products like these.

So because of these reasons, you can expect Honda to bring an electric scooter in India but the chances for it to be an Activa will be less, at least the first Scooter won't be an Activa it is sure. The Second product they will going to bring will be a niche product, and they will try that the Scooters come with a Battery swapping option. Many brands coming together and trying to make battery swapping stations, this thing is not available in India, but this thing is more common in Taiwan. Basically, they are trying to make a sort of universal battery to swap it with an electric scooter of any brand. A few companies are trying to make this together, in India it doesn't make much progress but other countries, like Taiwan is one of them, where this plan is implemented successfully. It will take much time to come to India. Companies like Bajaj or TVS are trying to play it minimally, whereas other newly introduced brands are taking more risk by investing more, so you will get value for money product from them.

Overall, for now, Honda's electric scooter will come but it won't be the Activa.
