Airtel, Jio, and VI have received spectrum from India's Department of Telecom for 5G trials:

The Department of Telecom (DoT) gave telecom operators the go-ahead earlier this month to begin 5G testing in India without the involvement of Chinese OEMs. According to industry insiders, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has awarded 5G spectrum to operators such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vi (Vodafone Idea), BSNL, and MTNL so that they may begin testing 5G networks in India.

“Telecom operators have been allocated spectrum in the 700 MHz band, 3.3-3.6 gigahertz (GHz) band and 24.25-28.5 GHz band across various locations,” a telecommunications company executive told PTI in a statement (via LiveMint).

According to the Department of Transportation, the 5G network will give 10 times the download speed of the present 4G network. Furthermore, it is projected to boost spectrum efficiency. The telecom giants will put 5G networks to the test in a variety of Indian contexts, including telemedicine, tele-education, and drone-based agriculture monitoring, among others.

The Indian Department of Telecom has given mobile service providers permission to begin testing 5G networks in the nation, for those who are unaware. India's Department of Telecommunications further stated that 5G trials will not rely on Chinese OEMs, prohibiting operators from using Huawei or ZTE 5G equipment. As a consequence, Jio will perform 5G trials in the nation using indigenous technology and equipment, while other telecom operators have collaborated with companies like Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia, and C-DOT.

The 5G trials will take place in a number of locations throughout India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, and would last about six months. It will also be tested in the country's metropolitan, semi-urban, and rural sectors. According to reports, telecom providers are yet to be assigned a spectrum in states like Haryana, Punjab, and the union territory of Chandigarh.
