The Mahindra's new car which is going to come is XUV 700, its name is not XUV 500. So what is XUV 100? In very simple words Mahindra has trademarked XUV 100 for many years. When KUV 100 was about to launch, that Mahindra has trademarked many names like CUV 100, KUV 100, XUV 100, TUV 100. So they have trademarked many names for themselves so that they can choose a proper name for their product. Now if you look into KUV 100, the KUV stands for Kool Utility Vehicle 100, and the 100 is nothing but numerics to define the size for example 100 is smaller, 300 is bigger, and so on. A trademark stays valid for a certain number of years, so the XUV 100's trademark timeline was about to end, because of which we have seen the name again being trademarked. Many Websites are saying that XUV 100 is going to come against HBX, which is 100% not true, because of 2 main reasons, first is Mahindra has renewed the Trademark and second is very recently a group head of the company given a statement in which he said a simple line that " Main focus of Mahindra is towards petrol and diesel SUVs or full-size SUVs, which starts from Bolero, XUV 300 to XUV 700, etc in the segment. " For now they don't want to focus on the segment of Micro SUVs and small cars, rather their clear focus will be towards making SUVs which come under the proper full-size SUV's segment.
Will Alturas be renamed to XUV 900? or Mahindra working on another SUV which is above XUV 700? and more such rumors are going on in the market. So let us answer that very clearly. The Alturas is technically a Rexton, Rexton is the flagship product of SsangYong, SsangYong is owned by Mahindra, it is a South Korean company, and when this company's top model car was introduced in India and made locally, that time it was renamed Alturas. Now if you don't know, Earlier Mahindra used to sell a car named Rexton in the Indian market which was the previous generation of this Rexton. So Alturas was previously named Rexton, and later it was changed to Alturas. So will Alturas be renamed to XUV 900? so there is 90 to 95% no chance of doing so for two main reasons. First, they have to rebrand, because of which their branding cost will increase, and second is the future of Alturas is doubtful, for a simple fact, Mahindra is looking towards selling the SsangYong brand in the future to some company who take over to it. So retaining this car from SsangYong, for now, this is not cleared.
Both the news about XUV 100 and XUV 900 are rumors, so please don't believe them, and stay tuned to CERadar for more updates.
