Tata Electric Sedan with 1000KM Range | Tata E-Vision

This article will be going to be about Tata E-Vision, which has been a hot topic on social media groups. So here we'll be discussing it in-depth, so let's not make it long and go straight to the point. So Tata E-Vision is an electric car, and there are many rumors and many stories about it, somewhere it is said that it will give 1000km range, and will come with 10 years warranty, will come within Rs 25 Lakhs, and many such points have been said about this car and will it be coming very soon, and will it destroy Tesla, so we'll going to make you clear about it so that you could know about the point which are factual and which are incorrect.

So Tata E-Vision was exhibited in 2018 at the Geneva Motor show. So in case if you don't know then, Geneva Motor Show is a show which takes place every year in Geneva, Switzerland. It was a Sedan, and the concept was to show electric vehicle, and thus Tata Motors presented E-Vision, and they were supposed to tell their design language of their upcoming products, and they are very serious about the electric car market. So does E-Vision is coming anytime soon? That's not clear yet, but one thing we could say surely that, an electric car which gives a 1000km range, that's car's minimum price will reach around Rs 40 - 60 Lakhs just because of its batteries. So making it within Rs 25 Lakhs is next to impossible, and too within India, it's impossible at the present time.

Let us tell you why, it is because the Lithium-Ion batteries are being imported from outside,  and currently China, South Korea, and Japan make the Cells for that. If we want to make cells by ourselves, then currently we don't have any plant set up in India. Making those plants will take around 2-5 years minimum and those factories are called Giga factories of Lithium-Ion batteries. So those aren't available in India, but India is planning to make these plants in the future. The Sourcing of Lithium-Ion is major done from 3 countries, Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, so these 3 countries have the major stock of Lithium Ion in the World, and China and the United States have a little bit of it too, but in India, there is a very limited stock of Lithium Ion, if we talk about Natural Resources. If India wants to make Lithium Ion then India have to import its raw materials from those 3 countries, Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, and even if it is made in India and even the import duty is reduced, then also it will take around 4 - 5 year to make it at that price of Rs 25 Lakhs for 1000km range is impossible till then. So the news which says it will cover a range of 1000km for the price of Rs 25 Lakhs is completely incorrect. The second fact, if somehow it manages to give a 1000km range for a price of Rs 25 Lakhs, then its timeline will be shifted forward. It is because the cost of Lithium-Ion batteries is falling slowly, and for now, even Tesla doesn't give you the range of 1000km, so because of this reason, it's not anytime soon that you would get a range of 1000km in an electric car. So if an Electric car gives a range of 1000km, then there are many other brands, who have invested much bigger amounts on this front, which will come on the front and till date, there is no car with 1000km range in the market. It is because the quantity of Lithium Ion will increase because of which the batteries will become heavier because of which the vehicle's weight will be too excess, thus this thing doesn't go in its favor. For example, you can see Nexon EV, the difference in the weight of Nexon EV and Diesel is very much, Nexon EV is much heavier than the Nexon Diesel version, whereas it only gives a range of 300km and it only has a 33kw battery. That means if you want a 1000km range then you'll require a minimum 100kw battery, which is massive, 3x the weight of the Nexon EV. So because of this, it will become very heavy and its cooling process will become difficult. So all these things are not possible at the present time.

So this was the story behind Tata E-Vision, so if someone tells you that such a car is coming, don't believe him. Stay Tuned to CERadar for updates.
