Tesla's Plaid Plus has been dropped, according to Elon Musk's tweet because "Plaid is just so good"

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Sunday that the Model S Plaid Plus has been "cancelled" since the regular Plaid is "just so good."

Tesla has teased the Model S Plaid since 2019, and Musk said late last month that delivery will be pushed out to June 10th due to “one more week of tweak.” The car would have a max speed of 200 mph and a range of 390 to 412 miles.

He also stated on Twitter on Sunday that the Plaid could go from zero to 60 mph in under two seconds (a claim he has previously made).

The Plaid Plus was supposed to have a range of over 520 miles, but its specs were greyed out on Tesla's website on Sunday, while the site still states "Plaid Plus available in mid-2022."

In 2019, the Plaid Model S had its racetrack debut in Laguna Seca, where it lapped the track in 1 minute and 36 seconds. In September, Tesla debuted the Model S Plaid as part of its Battery Day presentation.

While it's likely Musk was joking about the Plaid Plus being cancelled on Twitter (maybe to boost confidence in the regular Plaid model? ), it's also likely Musk was serious about the Plaid Plus being cancelled. Since he's already in trouble with the Securities and Exchange Commission for previous tweets regarding Tesla business, it seems unlikely.
