Google Pixel 6 Series - Everything We Know About Tensor AI Processor

Well, Google has already announced their new phone, Google Pixel 6, but they didn't announce it like they have launched it, but they have published many details about it, its render has also come, and the biggest thing we can notice is that is its AI Chip, which means the Tensor AI Chip. So we'll go to discuss it and bring light to the future plans of Pixel 6 for India.

What is Google Tensor Chip in Pixel 6?

So exactly the name of Tensor is Tensor Processing Unit, and it was an AI accelerated integrated circuit which was developed by Google in 2015, and the main reason for developing this is it can perform AI-related tasks with it. So Google has taken its technology and made a Chip, the code name of that Chip was Whitechapel, its name is officially changed to Tensor now. It is named Tensor because here, Google is only focusing on AI-based stuff. Now Google is planning to move on from the Qualcomm chips and start to produce phones with their own Tensor chips.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Vs Google Tensor

Qualcomm's chips were quite good and used to provide good performance as well, but one problem arises there, that is in the longevity. Qualcomm gives driver support for three years, till the driver support is available, Google can give Android updates till then, but as soon as the driver support goes away, then Google was unable to provide android updates to their Pixel phones. So in Pixel 6 this story will can a turn, and in the case of Tensor Chip, Google can give software updates for up to 5 years. Well now Google has understood that nowadays fast processors like Snapdragon 870,888 have improved in speed but, the visible difference of speed have been decreased, and Google knows it very well, that is why they have made their own chip. They didn't make a flagship-level specification but, they have made the chip that will give the performance like Snapdragon 888, and the GPU will be of Exynos 2100, which has come with Samsung S22 Ultra. Special AI codes have been developed here, which make Tensor so special.

Benefits of Tensor in Pixel 6

Now what Google is doing they are integrating the software and hardware in such a way so that the AI could be implemented properly. As you might already know that in Pixel you used to see Pixel's Visual Core chip, which use to do all the work of AI and machine learning, and also use to do the image processing, because of which you used to get to see good performance in it. Now the same thing was becoming a limitation factor, that they have to use an additional chip like Pixel Visual Core, as there will be limited space inside the phone, and the power requirement will be more, for security they had made Titan M chip, which will provide an additional layer of security, but if everything can be put inside a single chip then this will be a great thing. An inbuilt AI chip will benefit from better image processing. Earlier they were stuck on a 12 MP image sensor for a long time because they didn't have the requirement, but now they are making a 50MP custom image sensor and for handling that level of image processing they have a special chip with them.

AI Improvements in Pixel 6

They have improved the video recording capabilities, and Google Pixel 6 is giving a good performance in Video Recording also, they also beat the iPhone, which is the gold standard in video recording. That means the work they were doing in the mobile photography, now they do the same in case of Video recording as well. Other than that some other tasks of AI are performed here like if you're playing a video and you get to see an option of a live caption, generally thing runs with the internet, but now this power has come in the AI, so if play any video in your device and your device is not connected to the internet, you can still see the subtitles. It is because they are taking the help of AI and converting the voice translation to text.

Better Experience in Google Pixel 6

It is basically they have taken the power of Android 12 and paired it with the power of Tensor to give a different experience. So basically they don't want to play a number game, rather they want to provide a good experience to the user as well. So the Tensor becomes an important factor here, as they want to use AI almost everywhere, because of which you get to see the dedicated Tensor chip here.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

Pixel 6 series will come with two models, one is Pixel 6 and another one will be Pixel 6 Pro. Pixel 6 Pro will come with a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, both will come with a normal camera of 50 MP, an ultra-wide camera, and a 4x telephoto zoom lens. In Pixel 6 telephoto zoom lens will not be there and it will come with a 90Hz Full HD display of 6.4 Inches. The Tensor chip in both phones will be common. So Google has used almost all of their technology on making the Tensor Chip, and it will compete for head to head with the Apple and Qualcomm Chips, and here the main weapon of Google is the AI. AI and machine learning, this is a quite good thing, as Google has done mastery in it.

Google Pixel 6 Global Launch

Now the question comes that when will these phones will come into the market. Well for now Google has just showcased it and some leaks have only come up with revealing many details with it officially. Most probably these will launch in the US market in October and Google will nicely promote it on a high scale. What they have done is they have refreshed the whole Pixel lineup, from the software to its hardware design and camera as well. In simple words, they have taken rebirth and came up with a fresh lineup. Till now the feedback which has been seen on the internet was pretty positive.

Pixel 6 India Launch

Well from the sources we came to know that Pixel 5 is canceled in India, and about Pixel 6, currently, Google India is deciding when and how they should launch it in India. All these things will be finalized in September. For now, the probability of Pixel 6 coming to India is high, Google is showing highly positive interest in it. But the problem is this phone will not be made in India, so it will not come under the Make in India Campaign, it will be imported from outside, and taxes will be imposed on it, as a result, the price of this phone rise high. But if the phone as it is presented, will compete with iPhone and the phones in that segment, then it might be possible that mobile will go for it. The prices won't come under Rs 70,000 easily until they don't start making it India.

Well with Pixel 6, Google is also working on a special streaming stick which will be designed exclusively for India and will be launched here as well. This will be a competitor of the Fire TV Stick.

Now we have to wait and see that what happens. So let's see if they can compete for head to head with Qualcomm and make their place with Google Pixel like how iPhone has made their place.
