So do you know that the Mi Mix series by Xiaomi was a concept and where you can see the glimpse of Future. 5 years ago, when Mi Mix 1 was coming, they have taken bezel lessness as the mainstream, thought the design was inspired from the Shark Aquos phone. The 2016 Mi Mix felt like holding a display in your hand. But at that, there was a problem with this phone. Actually, the technology was not ready to make an under-display camera, but now it seems like Xiaomi has done it, they have brought the first under-display camera phone. You might see this phone in India as a showcase device. So let's find out more about it.
The Mi Mix series was exactly a concept series, so they didn't sell that in the market. Mi Mix 1 was made in the same way, and they have sold Mi Mix 2 in the market, and then they brought Mi Mix Alpha, where there was a wrap-around display, but this phone was only showcased. But Mi Mix 4 is a phone that might be showcased in India and sold in China because they have revealed its price and all. The biggest feature in this phone is the Under Display Camera; for this, Xiaomi has developed a special CUP technology, which is arranged in the form of Micro Diamond Pixel; the benefit of this is the resolution of the display won't degrade. Do you remember the first under-display camera phone, which was of ZTE? But there was a problem with that phone, the quality was not good enough, and we get to see a small cut out in it. Here, Xiaomi has refined the same technology, and for developing this technology, they have taken around 60 Patents and made an investment of around $77 million on research and development. After that, they have developed. In CUP technology, you get to see a viewing camera zone of 400ppi, where the pixel density, brightness, and color accuracy match the screen. With all these, the hardware and software of Mi Mix 4 have been made capable of capturing good quality video and photos using the same selfie camera. They have used a 20 MP camera here, which will use 4 in 1 binning to capture images. Well, this has a 20 MP image sensor, but the selfie will come at 5 MP. The simple reason behind this is that the light and colors could enter nicely from the display front. If the selfies are developed in 20 MP, then definitely the quality will be sacrificed, because of which the individual pixel size was kept big. By using the 4 in 1 pixel binning technique, they have tried to enhance the quality of the images so that you get to see brighter images. In the ZTE phone, it is because it felt like the images were taken by a 2 MP VGI Camera. So Xiaomi has tried to improve this thing, the algorithm of images are also improved, and the display which will become transparent while clicking picture has also improved. Well, they have made the display so that you can only see a single AMOLED panel of 120 Hz with full HD resolution. If you look carefully at the screen in a dark place, you might get to see the camera's hole.
It has a 120Hz Full HD display with the support of Dolby Vision, and it has a 480Hz touch response. In terms of protection, it has Corning Gorilla Glass on the front, and on the back, they have some kind of Ceramic Material, which is similar to Mi 11 Ultra. The benefit with Ceramic is, scratches won't come on it easily, but it is heavier in weight and might fall and shatter. The Device will be available in 3 colors only, Black, White, and Special Grey color. It also comes with a 4500 mAh battery which supports 120W charging, and even 50W wireless charging has also been implemented here. Mi Mix 4 also has Ultra-wideband technology. This helps connect with the IoT devices, which come with an Ultra-wideband chip, just by pointing them. Similarly, Samsung has also implemented the same technology, and also the same thing is implemented in the Apple Airtags. If we talk about the Cameras, it has a 108 MP main camera with a Samsung HMX sensor, 5x periscope zoom, and freeform ultrawide lens. This is the first phone in the world that will come with the Snapdragon 888+ processor. Snapdragon 888+ is the advanced version of Snapdragon 888, in which the heating issue of the chip is resolved, so they have used Graphene-based sheets.
This phone is not presented as a concept phone. Rather, it is being presented as the main phone. Even the Mi Mix Fold wasn't very popular in the market. It stayed within China only, but Mi Mix 4 might get popular and can be seen in many countries of the world, and in India, it might also be seen as a showcase device. Mi Mix 4 costs around 4999 Yuan, around Rs 55,000 to Rs 60,000 in Indian Currency, but obviously, making the phone available in China is cheaper than making it available in India. The first reason behind it is that this type of phone is not produced in India; rather, they are imported because the prices rise high. So if this phone comes in India for sale, and if you get to see Mi 11 Ultra, then the price of this phone be around Rs 1 Lakh. Well, Xiaomi has tried to leave Samsung behind in the market. Samsung will launch the Galaxy Fold series, in which we'll get to see the under-display cameras, so for staying ahead of Samsung, Xiaomi has done this earlier than Samsung.
Well, Xiaomi not only launches Mi Mix 4, but they have also launched Mi Pad 5 series, where you get to see Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro. Well, they have tried to build the premium technology, like you would have seen Apple has iPad Pro, similarly here you get to see Mi Pad, as Mi Pad is not made affordable rather, it has been made in a premium range. It has an 11-inch LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision HDR playback support, and Dolby Atmos Speakers. Well, both of the Tablets are quite similar and have very minor differences. So Mi Pad 5 comes with Snapdragon 860, and in Mi Pad 5 Pro, you get Snapdragon 870. In Mi Pad 5 Pro, you also get the 5G option. Basically, there are changes in the speakers. Also, you get 4 speakers in Mi Pad 5 and 8 Speakers in Mi Pad 5 Pro. 67W charging in Mi Pad 5 Pro and 33W charging in Mi Pad 5. Apart from that, there are many similar features in both the tablets, like the same display, the same camera at the rear, and even you get to stylus support and a dedicated keyboard. Even for playing games, also you get to see a 240Hz touch response. Xiaomi has even optimized their MIUI for tablets so that they can give a different look and feel to the tablets. Here is what will happen, if someone using MIUI on the tablet and the software is not optimized properly, then the Android won't function properly; it feels like you're using your mobile phone on a bigger screen. That is why iPad OS comes out to be a little bit advanced, so Xiaomi took some queues from iPad OS and optimized MIUI. Currently, the tablets are exclusive in China only, and it is tough to come to India because the prices will be very high for these tablets in India. Already there is Poco X3 Pro, which comes around Rs 18,000, and has Snapdragon 860, which is already the rebranded version of Snapdragon 855+. If Poco X3 Pro is cost around Rs 18,000, then we can't expect Mi Pad 5 series to be in India around Rs 20-25,000, as the expenses arise in the component level, so the price might reach around Rs 30,000, which will be tough for the people to spend this much for Mi Pad 5. These might work if they remove some components, optimize them, and bring it around a price point of Rs 20,000. There are many options for Tablets above the price point of Rs 30,000. If Xiaomi can bring this tablet under the price point of Rs 30,000, this might work as there are no such options of tablets available in the market under this price point, and if someone wants to spend more, you can buy a laptop than a tablet.
Xiaomi has introduced Cyberdog, which is basically a Robot that comes in the shape of a dog. It has four legs and can even perform a backflip. Well, it is yet unknown that what and how it will work. But yes, they just wanted to showcase their technology here.
So Xiaomi is doing innovative things here. This was all about Mi Mix 4, Mi Pad 5 Series, and similar technologies that are likely to be implemented in phones in the future.
That's all for this post, stay tuned to CERadar for more such updates.
