The sales in the compact SUV segment are ever-increasing, and people are buying these cars like cakes, and the latest entry into this segment is the MG Astor, which is basically the petrol version of the MG ZS. The MG Astor will rival the Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos, and the Hyundai Creta. As the Creta is the most popular car in this segment so we will compare it to the MG Astor.

We will start off with the exteriors. Now both the cars are very similar in terms of size, there is not a lot of difference but the MG Astor is longer taller, and wider than the Hyundai Creta but the wheelbase of the Hyundai Creta is longer than the wheelbase of the MG Astor. Now talking about the length, MG Astor is longer by 23 millimeters than the Hyundai Creta and The Astor is wide about 19 millimeters and it is also taller by 15 millimeters. Meanwhile, the wheelbase of the Hyundai Creta is longer than the Astor by 25 millimeters. Both the cars come with very good ground clearance and on both the cars you get 17-inch tires. On the MG Astor, you get a 215/55 R17 tire, while the spare wheel is 215/60 R16, meanwhile, on the Hyundai Creta, you get 215/60 R17 tires while the spare wheel size is 205/65 R16. Yes on both cars you get a 16-inch spare wheel, while the main tires are 17 inches in size. Both come with LED headlamps, LED taillamps, you get automatic headlamps on both the cars, and overall both of them are quite stylized but the MG Astor looks a little more pleasing to the eyes. The Hyundai Creta is quite a familiar car, it was launched early last year but the MG Astor is not an all-new car is based on the ZS and we are familiar with the design of the ZS as well. Meanwhile, on the MG Astor, you get 3 color options for the interior, you get dual-tone Shanghai Red, you get Ivory White and you also get a black color option. The Hyundai Creta has more hard plastics all around, meanwhile, the MG Astor has some more soft-touch material on the interiors.

We'll start off with the features that are on offer on the MG Astor. Now this car gets a 6 way electrically adjustable driver seat, a Panoramic Sunroof, an electric parking brake, rain-sensing wipers, 80 connected car features, you get a personal AI assistant, heated ORVMs and you also get different steering wheel modes like normal, urban and dynamic along with that you also get a digital key variant, in which you can lock, unlock and even start your car using the connectivity option on your mobile phone so the car and the mobile are paired via Bluetooth and you have to come in a radius of 2.5 meters close to the car and you can use these functions. Apart from this the MG Astor also gets a 10.1-inch infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. All the connectivity options and the screen is very fluid and responsive to use. The vehicle comes with many subscription-based services like JioSaavn, along with that you also get a PM 2.5 air filter. The MG Astor also gets many essential features like Automatic Climate control, keyless go with push-button start, automatic headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers.

Now we'll talk about the features of the Hyundai Creta. Now this Hyundai Creta comes with Ambient lighting, remote engine start with the smart key band, you get a panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake, 7-inch instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, 8 way electrically adjustable driver seat, compared to the 6-way adjustable seat in the Astor, along with these, this car also gets an air purifier, and different driving modes like Eco, Normal and Sports and different traction control modes like snow, sand, and mud as well. The Hyundai Creta also gets pedal shifters, automatic climate control, keyless go with push start. 10.25-inch infotainment system with Bose speakers. The Hyundai Creta also gets a connected car feature which is 50+ in number, and this is called Bluelink. The Hyundai Creta also gets a driver rearview monitor and it also comes with automatic headlamps.

Now in terms of safety features, the Hyundai Creta has 6 Airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC(Electronic Stability Control), VSM(Vehicle Stability Management), Hill Assist System, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, Tyre pressure monitoring system, and 4 disc brakes. Meanwhile, the MG Astor also comes with 6 Airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Traction Control, ISOFIX Child seat mounts, 4 disc brakes, Tyre pressure monitoring system, and a 360-degree camera, now the quality of the camera is not that great in the Astor and there is a lot of room for improvement in it. The MG Astor also comes with ADAS level 2 features, now this is something which is not offered on any car in this price range, yes, the XUV700 gets it but the XUV700 is in a higher segment as well. Now talking about the ADAS features, you get intelligent headlamp control, Speed assist system, it warns you about the speed limits on the roads, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. none of these cars have been crashed tested yet, so we don't know the safety ratings as of now.

Now talking about the engine options, the MG Astor is available with 2 petrol engine options, the first one is a naturally aspirated unit and the second one is a turbo-charged unit. Now talking about the naturally aspirated engine, this is a 1.5 Liter 4 cylinder unit, making 110 ps and 144 nm and this is offered with a 5-speed manual or a CVT meanwhile, the 1.3-liter turbo petrol makes 140 ps and 220 nm, and this is offered with a 6-speed torque converter. Now talking about the engine in the Hyundai Creta, you get 3 engine options, 1.5-liter MPI petrol, 1.4-liter turbo petrol, and 1.5-liter diesel. The 1.5-liter MPI petrol, it makes 115 ps power and 144 nm, this is available with a 6-speed manual or a CVT, the 1.4-liter turbo petrol makes 140 ps and 242 nm, this gets a 7-speed DCT and the 1.5-liter diesel engine makes 115 ps and 250 nm this also gets a 6-speed manual and a 6 speed automatic. So yes Hyundai does have an upper hand with the availability offer a diesel engine, something which is missing in MG Astor.
